Certified Nursing Assistant

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are essential members of the healthcare team who provide direct care to patients under the supervision of licensed nurses. They play a critical role in assisting with daily living activities, monitoring patient well-being, and ensuring a safe and comfortable healthcare environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Care: Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding, while promoting their independence and dignity.
  2. Vital Signs: Take and record vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate, regularly to monitor patient health.
  3. Mobility Assistance: Help patients with mobility and transfer activities, including repositioning, ambulation, and the use of assistive devices.
  4. Medication Support: Assist with medication reminders and the administration of non-injectable medications under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
  5. Nutrition and Hydration: Provide assistance with meals and ensure proper hydration for patients, monitoring dietary preferences and restrictions.
  6. Observation: Observe and report changes in patients’ physical and emotional conditions, promptly notifying the nursing team of any concerns or abnormalities.
  7. Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities, including ADLs, vital signs, and any unusual observations.
  8. Patient Comfort: Ensure patient comfort by addressing their physical and emotional needs, including pain management and emotional support.
  9. Infection Control: Follow infection control protocols to maintain a clean and safe patient care environment.
  10. Patient Education: Provide patient and family education on topics such as hygiene, fall prevention, and the use of medical equipment.
  11. End-of-Life Care: Assist with end-of-life care and provide emotional support to patients and their families during difficult times.
  12. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with licensed nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.

Requirements:

  1. CNA Certification: Current and valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of practice.
  2. Education: Completion of a state-approved CNA training program, typically including a minimum number of training hours and clinical experience.
  3. Clinical Competence: Proficiency in providing basic patient care, ADLs, and vital sign measurement.
  4. Communication Skills: Effective communication and interpersonal abilities to interact with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
  5. Compassion: A compassionate and patient-centered approach to care, demonstrating empathy and respect for patients and their families.
  6. Attention to Detail: Precision and accuracy in documenting patient care and observations.
  7. Adaptability: Ability to adapt to varying patient needs, clinical environments, and healthcare settings.
  8. Ethical Conduct: Uphold ethical standards, patient confidentiality, and professional integrity.
  9. Physical Stamina: Possess the physical stamina to perform caregiving duties, including lifting and assisting with patient mobility.
  10. CPR Certification: Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR, as required by the healthcare facility.
